TORRANCE, CA – Sakura Finetek USA, Inc. today introduces the Tissue-Tek Genie® Advanced Staining System for immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in-situ hybridization (ISH) at the 42nd Annual NSH Symposium/Convention in Long Beach, CA.
Genie is Sakura’s new platform for advanced staining builds on Sakura’s commitment to develop a full and complete line of innovative SMART automated platforms for clinical and life science research customers. The Genie product line was developed to provide uncompromised quality of IHC and ISH staining with predictable turnaround time (TAT), combined with the well-established and trusted instrument reliability respected for many decades.
“We are excited for Sakura to enter the fast growing advanced staining market and introduce Genie after more than 10 years in development.  The Genie stainer will be strategically coupled with the IHC and ISH assays developed by Sakura’s recently acquired Genemed division, which leverages the unique new features of Genie with optimized state of the art reagent systems. This pairing offers our global customers a powerful solution for faster, more sensitive and specific IHC and ISH”, said Takashi Tsuzuki, Chief Executive Officer and President, Sakura Finetek USA.
Genie offers a LEAN workflow management enabling laboratories to easily and quickly adapt to changes in demand, test menus or TAT. Single slide workflow for 30 fully independent staining stations eliminates the wait time to group slides and prevents losing slide positions on trays due to the inability to match slides and grouping protocols. With Genie, laboratories not only gain the ability to stain individual slides and entire cases simultaneously, but can add any slide for IHC or ISH without affecting the TAT of any slides already being stained.
"The Genie System is the first and only fully automated, true random access stainer for IHC and ISH featuring completely independent slide stations for fast, efficient and predictable TAT with five flexible antibody and probe dispensing options. We look forward to offering our customers these benefits for their laboratories which will improve workflow and address many concerns with current advanced staining platforms”, said George Kennedy, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Sakura Finetek USA.
The Genie system provides performance-optimized IHC protocols for a comprehensive range of Genie antibodies using a complementary detection system and ancillary reagents.  Sakura offers two ready-to-use antibody formats pre-diluted for fast and complete biological reaction to ensure reproducible and standardized staining results. A flexible protocol setup not only allows easy incorporation of user-defined antibodies and probes, but quick creation of protocol-variants ideal for antibody titrations.
Each staining station leverages a fast-response Peltier thermoelectric module to efficiently heat/cool reagents in combination with Genie’s advanced gap technology, innovation that provides uniform, reproducible, full staining coverage of the entire slide ideal for large prostate sections or use of on-slide controls.  Easy to load/unload bulk reagents in combination with very low waste generation results in user strain-free handling and cost-efficient waste management.
The Genie System is available with Tissue-Tek iSupport™, which provides continuous on-line, remote monitoring of the Genie System components and functions; iSupport ensures real-time detection of situations affecting performance, thus providing less downtime and increased productivity.
